Over three decades of experience, the Division of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at UCSF is a world leader in the field, performing complex surgeries including repair of congenital defects, Norwood procedures, Arterial Switch and Ross procedures. Our surgeons also perform many operations using minimally invasive techniques that reduce hospital stays, speed recovery time and decrease scarring.
Our care and innovative approaches build on the latest research in the field. Many of our treatments were developed by internationally recognized leaders at UCSF. Our surgeons are also outstanding teachers, training the future doctors of tomorrow and conducting international outreach activities to enhance pediatric cardiothoracic care in the community. Our program also has an outstanding fellowship program.
Research & Innovations
Superb care of the fetal and pediatric patient and family requires not only productive clinical interaction of disparate clinical disciplines, but successful collaboration of diverse biological and physical science groups in the research laboratory. In our paradigm of surgical care, the problems of our small patients also become the motivation for investigators in the basic sciences to assist in the understanding of disease mechanism and develop new therapies to cure, ameliorate, or prevent previously untreatable birth defects.

The Division of Pediatric Surgery at UCSF Children's Hospital is dedicated to the care of children. We provide expert surgical care of fetuses, infants, children, and adolescents with congenital and acquired conditions. Our surgeons are internationally recognized leaders in the fields of pediatric surgical oncology, minimally invasive surgery, and birth defects. Our team of surgeons work in conjunction with a full spectrum of pediatric subspecialists to provide comprehensive care to children.
